Supply List:

-Bulletin Board

-Materials you already have (I used scrapbook paper/paper, frames, a clipboard, ruler, acrylic paint, paintbrush, markers, pen, push pins, jute, glass gems, scissors, glue stick, stencil, and hot glue gun/glue)

Alternative Supply List:

-Use what you have!

Overview:

Want to update your standard or old bulletin board? Want to get a better usage of your bulletin board? This DIY can solve both those problems! This is a great project to keep an organized life! Do one step, some steps, or all of the steps. Each step is labeled to give you easier ability to jump to certain steps.

Project Directions:

Step 1: Paint:

Add some paint to your bulletin board!

You can use spray paint, acrylic paint, wall paint, etc. I would not recommend tempera paint, watercolors, or watered down acrylic (for example the type you can buy at Ocean State Job Lot). I used acrylic paint made by blick. It is my favorite acrylic paint because it is inexpensive and a good quality for the money. I applied two coats of paint. You can paint the entire bulletin board or just the inside of the bulletin board like I did! Happy with the result? Stop here or continue!

Step 2: Border:

I added jute to the frame of the bulletin board using a hot glue gun. You can add a different color of paint to the border, scrapbook paper, ribbon, mosaic tiles, or something else to jazz up your border. Use what you have.

Step 3: Dry Erase Boards

I added two dry erase boards to my bulletin board. I created one board that I can write down my daily meetings, appointments, tasks, etc. I made the second board my goal board where I can write down tasks or goals for the week/month. You could create a weekly board, a goal board, a shopping list board, a to do board, a monthly calendar board, etc. Think about what would be most useful for you.

In this step I used two frames, a ruler, scrapbook paper, a marker, stencils, hot glue gun/glue, a glue stick, liquid glue, and scissors.

-First I took apart the frames. For the daily board I used the cardboard, the plastic, and the border. For the goal board I used the cardboard and the glass.

-Next I took off the hanging hardware on the back of the cardboard so it would sit flush with the bulletin board.

-Then I measured, cut, and glued scrapbook paper onto the cardboard with liquid glue/a glue stick.

-Next I used a stencil and a marker to write the letters and words for the boards.

-After the above steps, I measured, cut, and glued scrapbook paper onto the border, then cleaned the plastic, and finally put the frame back together. (For the daily board)

-After the above steps, I cleaned the glass, then put frame back together, and finally glued scrapbook paper to create a border. I did this board differently since I did not keep the original border. (For the goal board)

-Lastly I glued the boards to the bulletin board with hot glue.

Step 4: Clipboard

I added a custom clipboard to the bulletin board to hang paper to write notes, shopping lists, to do lists, etc. Do you want a clipboard, do you need more than one?

In this step I used a clipboard, drawing pad paper, ruler, scissors, scrapbook paper, pins, hot glue gun/glue, a glue stick.

-First I took apart the clipboard. I did not want the original backing which was cardboard and so I carefully removed the clip. I did rip the cardboard but I was okay with that as long as the clip was not damaged.

-Then I removed the two pins that held the clip to the cardboard because otherwise the clip would not sit flat against the bulletin board.

-Next I measured, cut, and glued scrapbook paper to the bulletin board as the "clipboard backing."

-I used pins to hold the paper in place as extra support and for an extra design element.

-I hot glued the metal clip to the bulletin board overlapping the scrapbook paper.

-I hot glued and pressed pins into the holes where I removed the old pins. This was added because for design and support.

-Finally I ripped out paper from the drawing pad and added it to the clipboard.

Step 5: Pins

I added custom pins by gluing glass gems to metal push pins using a hot glue gun.

Step 6: Hook and Writing Materials

I wanted easy access to writing materials so I cut, tied, and glued jute around a dry erase marker and a pen. Then I added a screw in hook and hung my marker and pen on the hook.
