Cardboard Roll Caterpillar

Supply List:
-Cardboard Roll (toilet paper roll, paper towel roll, wrapping paper roll, etc.)
-Pipe Cleaner
-Scissors
-Glue (liquid or hot glue gun preferable)
-Colored Paper
-Paint
-Paintbrush
Alternative Supply List:
-If you don't have a paintbrush your child can finger paint
-If you don't have paint/paper you can have your child color it with a coloring material of your choice
-If you don't have pipe cleaners you can use twistees, wire, paper, or another material you do have
Overview:
During this project your child will have fun making a toilet paper roll caterpillar inspired by the book "The Hungry Caterpillar."
Project Directions:
Step One:
Cut a cardboard tube up into as many pieces as you want. In the example above the caterpillar had a head and 3 body pieces.
Additional Learning Opportunity:
Listen to a read aloud of the book "The Hungry Caterpillar"
Step Two:
Paint the cardboard pieces with red and green paint or whatever color you would like.
Step Three:
Cut pipe cleaners for the antennas (this is an adult step - pipe cleaners are hard to cut). Glue the antennas on the head.
Step Four:
Cut and glue pieces of colored paper for the eyes of the caterpillar. You could alternatively use googly eyes or color on eyes.
