Skills/Topics:

-Home Decor

Supply List:

-A Tire

-Large Twine or Rope (the rope I used was 3/8mm thick)

-Hot Glue Gun & Glue

-Nylon Rope/Paracord/Clothesline

Alternative Supply List:

-If you don’t have a tire you can find these for free by asking a tire shop for a tire they are going to recycle, looking on the side of the road, or online (facebook marketplace, letgo app, etc.) Alternatively you can do a similar decor item with an object that is similar in size and or shape to the tire.

-If you don't have twine you can use another similar material.

Overview:

During this project you will get a chance to recycle an old tire that would otherwise end up in the dump into a fun beho decor piece!

Project Directions:

Step One:

Clean your tire if needed. Tie your nylon rope onto the tire. Then wrap the tire with the nylon rope in various directions. I used approximately 100 feet of rope to wrap my tire. If you feel that the rope is going to fall off the edge of the tire then interweave the rope as you are wrapping for extra strength and durability! If you would to be able to sit on your project once it's completed make sure that you test sitting on it before moving onto the twine step. I had my "assistant" hold the rope while I tested it out. I decided to add extra support by using an over and under weaving pattern around the center of the ropes added previously. See pictures below for more clarification.

Step Two:

Measure to find the center of your tire.

Step Three:

Glue the twine to itself in a spiral pattern (a few inches) before you glue it onto the center of the tire. Once you glue the twine to the tire make sure as you continue gluing that you glue the twine to itself and the tire/nylon rope (the best you can). You will most likely have a lot of hot glue gun drips as you work so make sure you have something under the tire as you work, I used placemats. Continue gluing... and gluing.... and gluing... until you have a finished product! You do not need to complete the whole bottom... I didn't because I ran out of twine. I used 350 ft of twine for a 26 inch tire. I probably could have done with about 300 ft and would need about 400 ft in order to fully cover the entire bottom. Check out how I styled the decor piece in my living room! Do you notice any other changes I made to the corner of my living room?
